Characters That Should Be Added to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC 2 Pack

Last week we were treated to the last, and long awaited, DLC fighter for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate lived up to its name by including every character that was featured in its past installments. But they were not done yet, by announcing that they will include five characters as part of a DLC pack as well and their own stage and a collection of music from their series. Was it another character from a third party game like Banjo, Joker, and Terry Bogard? No, it was Elise from Fire Emblem, yes folks another Fire Emblem character. Elise’s inclusion to the franchise would be a nice ending, except it isn’t. Along with her announcement, there will be another DLC pack, along with five other characters to be added. Six slots need to be filled, but whom? This is a list of who I think could be good inclusions to Smash's roster in the next DLC Pack.

Impa

Impa’s inclusion into the Smash Bros series has been long deserved. For most who don’t know, most incarnations of Impa have been fierce Sheikah warriors who have served the Royal Hylian family for years. Impa herself has been the personal bodyguard to Princess Zelda herself. So Impa is more than qualified to join the fray. As for her moveset, they could be a combination of Sheik and Zelda’s to give the players who missed the Zelda/Sheik duo that was recently split in Ultimate and the Nintendo/3DS games.

Dixie Kong

Dixie’s been a top choice pick for fans ever since the Melee games. At one point she was even considered to be added to Brawl but alas things weren’t meant to be. Maybe Ultimate is finally the opportunity for Dixie to swing right in. In the games Dixie used her ponytail as a weapon and to hover over things so it’s only natural for her to use them for attacks. Dixie could be for those fighters who want to keep their distance between competitors. She could even use her ponytail to deflect projectiles and for recovery purposes, floating back on stage. Dixie could whip the other fighters into shape.

Dr. Eggman

Sonic’s looking a little lonely as being one of the few characters in the series that is the sole representation of his franchise. Even Ryu has Ken! It’s been a long time coming for someone else from the Sonic franchise to join him. Tails and Shadow seem to be the top choices, but they’re also the most predictable and probably be clones, oops ECHO FIGHTERS. Dr. Eggman would be the perfect choice to mix things up and surprise fans. His attacks could range from his evil collection of gadgets and he could use his Death Egg as a final smash to deliver the final blow. Also, imagine seeing him, Bowser, King K. Rool, and Ganondorf in the same game. Iconic villains of video game history unite!

Medusa

Medusa has been a formidable for Pit and Palutena where Pit, umm PITTed himself against her forces. Before the events of Uprising and the original Lid Icarus she waged a war against Palutena, so there’s a grudge there. So how will Medusa fare in Smash? They can use attacks she used against Pit in Uprising and even her snakes as projectiles like she did in the original Kid Icarus.Plus it’s be nice to hear Cree Summer verbally smack talk Palutena and Viridi in one of those Palutena guidelines.

K.K. Slider

Yes, another Animal Crossing character. We already got Villager and Isabelle, who is fancy Echo Fighter with flair, and adorableness, so what will set K.K. apart? He can have attacks based on his guitar, literal killer beat attacking you with notes. His final could be DJ K.K. where you could jam right before you fly off stage.

Professor E. Gadd

Luigi’s Mansion is becoming a big series on its own so why not celebrate that by adding Professor E. Gadd? E. Gadd have introduced a ton of gadgets all throughout the Mario series, so why not use it. Magic paintbrush that uses the paint effect Inkling uses, damaging other fighters with paint that lingers on. He mainly attacks with his Poltergust sucking in character for quick attacks or thrashing them about like in Luigi’s Mansion Dark Moon and 3. You could even use the elements from the first Luigi’s Mansion, switching them out. Paranormal studies find that Professor would be a good inclusion.

Tingle

Tingle’s inclusion would be only because he would be a good joke character and we don’t have that many in Smash. Him being a joke character wouldn’t mean he wouldn’t be fun as well? He can use attacks based off his spin-off series and might even blow himself up with Chuchus, hurling himself at fighters, damaging them. Tingle would be fun!

Rick, Kine, and Coo

Sometimes you need your friends. These three helped Kirby in Kirby’s Dreamland 2. They can help our little pink puffball in Ultimate using attacks they used in the game. You could also switch them out like Pokémon Trainer and in Kirby Star Allies. Gooey might even make an appearance.

Cinderace

Smash loves adding Pokémon. Smash loves adding starters as well. Cinderace also seems to be the popular final evolution for the recent Gen 8 games (Pokemon Sword and Shield) and I’m sure that the Pokémon Company was pushing Sakurai to add him in the game.

Lip

Lip’s stick has been a staple since Melee, so I’m sure Lip would be wanting to be reunited with it after being separated from it after all these years. Lip is from the game Panel De Pon, which we got as Tetris Attack here in the states. So being in an iconic game that has been a staple in Nintendo’s history warrants her being added to the roster. Aside from giving her opponents energy sapping flowers she could summon block to hurl at other fighters and her final smash could be an actual Tetris Attack where she summons a ton of blocks and rack up combos and hit points.

Who do you think should be added?

Is it Safe to Believe THAT Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Rumor?

Recently we were treated to an all Super Smash Bros. Ultimate dedicated Nintendo Direct. Hype has been simmering and stewing within us to figure out what will be in store for us in this next installment for months since Nintendo announced the game for the first time. The first time we were met with small info like Daisy, an echo fighter, and Ridley already joining the full studded roster of every character that has been in the series.
The recent Nintendo Direct containing new Smash Bros. goodness didn't disappoint. We've gotten news of over 100 stages, almost 800 tracks, quick stage changes happening in between fights, but that was only the tip of the iceberg. We've gotten new characters as well. Chrom and Dark Samus join as new echo fighters. But the big excitement has been over the inclusion of old Donkey Kong nemesis King K. Rool and both legendary vampire hunters from Castlevania, Simon and Richter Belmont. The new fighters have been a surprise, or were they?
On July 1st, a user on 4chan claimed that there would be eleven new characters coming to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and they would be revealed monthly using codenames which would be the following:

  • In July, the characters “King” and “Ponytail” will be revealed in a mini Nintendo Direct.
  • In August, the character “Old Man” will be revealed at EVO 2018.
  • In September, the character “Archer” will be revealed in a Nintendo Direct of some kind.
  • In October, the Characters “Warrior” and “Secretary” will be revealed in a Nintendo Direct centered around Ultimate.
  • In November, the character “Mech” will be revealed in a surprise character announcement.
  • The Characters “Rhythm”, “Folklore”, “Doll”, and “Prime Ribs” won’t get reveal trailers until post-release.
Many speculated what characters the codenames stood for and determined the following:

  • King: King K. Rool.
  • Ponytail: Dixie Kong, Shantae the Genie or Ashley from WarioWare
  • Old Man: Heihachi Mishima from Tekken.
  • Archer: Decidueye from Pokemon Sun and Moon
  • Secretary: Isabelle from Animal Crossing.
  • Warrior: Simon Belmont from Castlevania, or a new character from Fire Emblem.
  • Mech: Chibi-Robo or Elma from Xenoblade Chronicles X.
  • Rhythm: A character from Rhythm Heaven or the Chorus Kids.
  • Folklore: Amaterasu from Okami or a character from Touhou Project.
  • Doll: Geno from Super Mario RPG.
  • Prime Ribs: Dark Samus or Ninten from Mother.
So, looking at this, let's get out what didn't happen. We didn't get a monthly reveal nor did we get a Dixie Kong reveal with King K. Rool. We did get King K. Rool, Dark Samus, and Simon Belmont. With most rumors, you shouldn't fully trust them and just take them with a grain of salt and this rumor for the most part was proven to be false, however, you can look at it as who could be announced instead of how characters will get announced. For the most part it was right revealing three characters that would be coming to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, which is more accurate than most Smash Ultimate rumors out there.
Another Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. themed Nintendo Direct is coming where we will get even more characters coming to the game. There is more of a possibility that we may get to who will be added next, possibly Dixie Kong and Heihachi. Dixie Kong has been referenced a ton of times as trophies and has even at one point considered to be a playable character in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Heihachi has been used as an alternate costume for the Mii character in last game, Super Smash Bros. for the Nintendo 3DS/Wii U. Since Sakurai has been listening to the fans' wishes like a video game Santa Claus, these two may be the next added to the roster, hopefully. Maybe Geno too but who are we kidding. Again, this is all speculation and we will never know until the next Smash themed Nintendo direct.

Who do you want to see in Smash Ultimate?

The History of Super Smash Bros' Adventure Mode

The original Super Smash Bros for the Nintendo 64 was released January 1999 and it was marvelous. All of Nintendo's biggest stars fighting each other in a lbs all out brawl, and fighting a giant hand! What more can you ask for? A sequel of course. While working on the next installment, Melee, Masahiro Sakurai and co are probably asking themselves what they can do to make the game even bigger and better. New characters? Of course. Add another giant hand to fight? Sure why not. Make a lot of the new characters clones of previous fighters? Nothing wrong there. But it was one thing that was a definite great ideal. Let's add an adventure mode. And the rest is wonderful history.

Adventure Mode for Melee

Melee's adventure mode was the one that really started it all. An amazing journey that took you almost everywhere in the Nintendo universe. Fighting Goombas, Koopa Troopas, and Yoshis. Wondering around a dungeon in Hyrule. Trying not to get run over by the cars in F-Zero. It was an adventure mode indeed.

The Subspace Emissary

So when Brawl was announced Sakurai met a challenge. How can I make Adventure Mode even better? Let's give it a storyline and pair up all your faves together. The Subspace Emissary was Nintendo's Avengers Infinity War. Everyone has to go and stop Bowser and Ganondorf who have teamed together to enact a devious plan to take over the Smash World and turn everyone into trophies. It was also a nice introduction to Pit joining the fray.

Smash Run

Apparently we can't have nice things as when Brawl came out and the whole story of the Subspace Emissary was leaked on the internet. Sakurai was upset about it and decide to not give us another story with Adventure Mode. But that doesn't mean that we weren't going to get a new one. Instead he made a pseudo-Adventure Mode called Smash Run. You do go on an adventure on a giant map beating up as many baddies from Nintendo games in order to get coins, power-ups, and other goodies to do a mini Smash fight or challenge at the end. This was really his attempt to give us this as well as keep Break the Targets in the game in some form. So it may not be the great adventure epic Subspace Emissary was, but we should thank him in the end, right?

We don't know what Ultimate's Adventure Mode may be but it will most likely be good (But seriously, give us a Subspace Emissary sequel). What was your favorite? Please comment and share.

Will The SNES Classic Be As Big As The NES Classic?

Nintendo is giving us a follow up to the NES Classic, the SNES Classic. Just like its predecessor, the SNES Classic is an emulator that is basically the best of video games during that era and it is just that. The SNES Classic has a lot of classic games that we all loved and played. From Super Mario world and A Link to the Past to Contra III, and Earthbound what's in it is just amazing.
If you didn't know, the first NES Classic was a monster hit. It was one of the hottest things to get in December of 2016 selling 1.5 million units during that month. It sold like hotcakes with a side of methberry syrup. It sold so much that Nintendo had to push more units. As of now it has sold 2.3 million
Just as fast as it sold Nintendo decided to send it up the farm in order to sell this new SNES emulator that has everyone in a frenzy. Nintendo has already prepared for a repeat as they have ordered more SNESs made and you already have scalpers on eBay ready to sell the thing at insane prices as soon as they preorder. The question is however will it be a even bigger hit than the NES Classic?
Nostalgia was the selling point behind the NES Classic and what will be SNES Classic. I feel that SNES will be more connecting to this generation that these were the games we truly remember playing and enjoying. I personally do remember playing Super Mario Bros., Mega Man 2, & Zelda on the original NES, but the games that stuck with me and I remember most are the 16-bit games from the SNES era. I remember unlocking the Special Worlds in Super Mario World,  trying to get 100% in Donkey Kong Country, and how badass Simon Belmont's theme made me feel in Super Castelvania. I'm sure others will too.
Will it be bigger than its predecessor the NES Classic? Not sure. Again, it sold like crazy. I'm sure the SNES won't be a huge flop. Also it doesn't hurt that you have the unreleased Star Fox 2 as a way to incite people to buy it either.

9 Shows Nintendo Needs to Make

In last week's post, it was announced that Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima was going to start 2016 by doing five key objectives in order to branch out the company and make even more money. One of these objectives was to start making more anime and shows that could feature Nintendo stars. This is huge news. I remember watching the Super Mario and Legend of Zelda cartoons during the 80s-90s. They occasionally did make shows based on the other characters like Kirby and Donkey Kong, but now it seems that they are going to be invested in making more shows with more characters. Here's a list of shows that hopefully Nintendo might make or probably some ideas that sound just as good.

Detective Pikachu

The Detective Pikachu trailer came out this week and it was glorious. You're not only a Pikachu, but you're a Pikachu that talks with a weirdly adult male voice. There is comedy gold in this as well as potential to make this something more than just a video game. Detective Pikachu already has a little Detective Conan feel to it but that's a good thing already and would be a greater thing if they make a show to tie with the game coming out in the near future.

The Cat Mario & Cat Peach TV Show

I know there's a show online on the Nintendo UK channel, but  maybe it is time to move it to another format? The possibilities they could do with the Cat Mario and Cat Peach is huge. Along with games facts, which they give in their episodes, they can also do skits, jokes and probably play cartoons in the middle. Almost a revival of the Super Mario Super Show with Captain Lou. They could even play some of the old Mario and Zelda cartoons if they get the rights from them. Hopefully we'll include Kitsune Luigi and Tanooki Toad.

Wacky Mario Kart Races

For those who aren't old enough to remember. Wacky Races was an awesome show. You had Yogi and other Hanna Barbara characters race along on weird and funny track full of comedy and suspense guessing who will win the race. Since the Mario Kart games are almost the same thing, why not make a cartoon series to showcase the wackiness of the games. This would probably mean that Bowser Jr. will probably be the Muttly of the show.

Koopalings Series

I'm a Koopalings fan and I'm proud of that. They have been used in Nintendo games recently after a hiatus since Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga. Ever wonder what they did during that hiatus? A cartoon series could be an explanation of what they've been up to and what they do in-between helping Bowser take over the Mushroom Kingdom and kidnapping Peach. It could explain why they're not related to Bowser anymore too.

Zelda Anime

I know people were excited about the possibility of a live action Legend of Zelda series being on Netflix only to be saddened by it being a false rumor. While I don't exactly think that a live action Zelda could ever work. The story could wind up be poorly written fanfic and game pandering, going Once Upon a Time bad quickly. An anime or at least an adaptation based on the manga series could work however. The story is already there and I feel it could do more justice to the series than a live action Zelda series ever could. Just add a great animation team like the people behind the Marvel Anime series and it could be solid.

Animal Crossing Series

For those who loved the Animal Forest anime movie would probably love the idea of an Animal Crossing series. The idea could be to do everything in the movie but better and hopefully including more things in the game that couldn't fit into the movie.

Wario Series

A Wario series is kinda long overdue. you have Wario which gets into the most bizarre adventures in his own video games. Add that along with the zany characters of the Warioware games and you'll have a pretty awesome cartoon series.

Captain Toad

When we first introduced to Captain Toad we loved the little guy. We loved how adorable he looked navigating on the giant 3D puzzle grabbing stars. We loved him even more when he got his own game. We'll probably love him even more if he got his on cartoon. It could be him discovering places and going on adventures finding treasure, not just stars. Each episode could even start like Uncle Traveling Matt from Fraggle Rock with Toad or Toadette receiving postcards from Captain Toad himself.

Metroid Anime

I feel that a Metroid show was is way overdue. Even during the height of Nintendo's popularity there should've been a Metroid cartoon. It would be moreso like the idea I have for the manga Zelda anime except it would be have original stories instead of it being adapted by the Metroid manga series. I think anime Samus would look awesome.

What video games do you think Nintendo should make into shows?

Nintendo and DeNA: A Smart Move?

Earlier this week we learned that Nintendo is making a partnership with DeNA in order to make games for smartphones. That's right! Nintendo is starting to make games for your smartphone. Director and president of Nintendo, Satoru Iwata stated:
"One of my goals here is, now that we are challenging ourselves with this endeavor by making use of Nintendo IP, to produce multiple hit titles at an early stage after we start releasing our software on smart devices. Also, until now, when we said, “platform,” it meant a specific video game platform. Now that we are going to release games on smart devices and make use of globally widespread PCs and smart devices for our new membership service, we would like to offer more consumers with software that is suited to their tastes. In other words, we are challenging ourselves to redefine what “Nintendo platforms” mean."
This means that soon you will be able to play Zelda or Super Mario on your iPhone. Aside from just releasing games on smartphones, Nintendo will be using its partnership with DeNA to create a membership service that will connect all devices, smart devices and game consoles. Meaning that you could have ccontent that could connect your 3DS, Wii U, or even the new Nintendo NX they announced as well this week with your iPhone or iPad. There have been some indications in the past that Nintendo will be doing this or that they were testing the waters. Not too long ago, we had Nintendo announcing they would be releasing a Mario Kart 8 app on smartphones weeks before the game came out. We also have a crossover with Mario and the popular Puzzle and Dragon series in Japan which will be coming here to the US in the near future.
Whether or not you feel that this will help Nintendo, this was a decision that they desperately needed to make. It was no secret that Nintendo was facing some problems over the past years. The company has reported financial loss for the past three consecutive year due to the Wii U and the 3DS underperforming.Super Smash Bros, the Majora's Mask remake, and Mario Kart 8 Nintendo did well. They brought up sales Wii U and Nintendo 3DS sales as well as help sell the New Nintendo 3DS, but it is still not enough. Nintendo needs to do more to get them back to the top again.
There's a great chance that this could work for Nintendo. Here in the states, with games like Flappy birds and even the game from her whom we shall not speak of, mobile gaming is becoming a new medium to play games almost like handheld was years ago. This is more evident in Japan with the success of mobile games like Puzzle Dragon. We've come a long way from Minesweeper on you old Nokia phone. Nintendo sees this is becoming a big thing and know that this is where they need to go. It will be interesting to see that they are thinking forward on doing something like this. They are excited to go further with DeNA, hoping that there will be a mobile game at the end of the year. Whether or not it will work, we will have to see.

What are your thoughts on Nintendo and DeNA's partnership. Will it work for Nintendo?

These are not just limited to trophies and stages. The history of Nintendo games can be found in the alternate costumes of certain characters.
